OPT was created in 2010 to end poverty by providing grants and capacity-building services to grassroots organizations that enable women to attain economic self-sufficiency.

OPT's first grant and support activities were to an Indonesian organization called PPMK (roughly translated: Empowering Women to Fight Poverty). PPMK, founded by Jack Wilson, has an active Microloan program for women and a Milk Program for children, and is creating recycling and composting programs that will provide even more jobs. It is run by a small group of dedicated staff who are are able to funnel 90% of their raised funds directly to program services. Their mission is to end poverty and the marginalization of indigenous women -- and to provide realistic options for self-sufficiency and self-improvement in a land too often characterized by extremism and terrorism.

Currently, OPT is not accepting grant proposals other than those submitted by OPT Board members.
